Two Baby Products You Should Always Make at Home

Posted on: 20 November 2017

Having a newborn baby can be incredibly challenging and expensive. Everyone wants the best for their child, but all natural baby products are not always affordable for families on a tight budget. However, using all natural ingredients, it is possible to make your own baby products at home without any compromise on quality. Consider the following two recipes for great, natural, and organic baby products that you can make at home, without breaking the bank.

Homemade Baby Wipes

Store-bought baby wipes contain artificial scents and additives, which can be an irritant to a sensitive baby's skin. The good news is that, with only four inexpensive ingredients, you can make an all-natural alternative for your baby that is even better at hydrating their skin and staving off bacteria. You will need:

  • One roll of kitchen/paper towels (cut in half)
  • Unscented castile soap
  • Organic coconut oil
  • Tea tree oil
  • One sealable glass or plastic container

Add one heaped tablespoon of the organic coconut oil to a measuring glass, along with an equal amount of the unscented castile soap. Add to this roughly 10 drops of the tea tree oil, and top up with pre-boiled water (to eliminate bacteria) to approximately 400ml. Allow the coconut oil to melt into the mixture. Place your paper towels upright in your sealable container and carefully pour the mixture over the top of the roll, ensuring total coverage. Allow to stand for a minute or so, then remove the cardboard tube at the centre of the roll. To use, simply reach into the centre and pull out as few or as many wipes as you require, as an automatic dispenser is created from the middle of the roll. Seal your container after each use, and your all-natural wipes should last for up to two weeks. Enjoy!

Homemade Baby Lotion

Good baby lotion can be expensive and, as with baby wipes, contain chemicals and unnatural scents that can be harsh on a baby's sensitive skin. Thankfully, using all natural ingredients, you can easily make a superior product at home in whatever quantities you require. You will need:

  • Unrefined shea butter (30 grams)
  • Organic coconut oil (90 grams)
  • Lavender oil (or any preferred essential oil)
  • Vitamin E oil – 10 drops
  • One sterilised and sealable glass jar

In a glass mixing bowl, add 30 grams of shea butter and 90 grams of coconut oil. At room temperature, both will most likely be solid and difficult to mix. If this is the case, place the bowl in a microwave for 5-10 seconds to allow the ingredients to mix more easily. Add 10 drops of your lavender oil and 10 drops of your vitamin E oil, which will further hydrate your baby's skin with a pleasing and soothing natural scent. Mix well and store in a sterilised glass jar with an airtight seal.

Have fun experimenting with these and other natural baby products for your little one: after all, your baby deserves the best!

Beauty and Fashion Tips for Every Season

As the seasons change, so too should your fashion strategy. Hi, my name is Molly, and I have always loved dressing up, doing my hair, trying new makeup designs and going to the spa. However, through the years, I have noticed that different items work better or worse at different times of years. If you want tips on looking amazing all year long, you have come to the right place. Please, put on your comfortable yoga pants, let your hair down, grab some tea and let's talk about fashion together. When I'm not writing about fashion or trying to put together the right outfit, you can usually find me at a coffee shop working on my first book that I hope to publish when it's done.
